Taking sports medicine to the next level
After several years in private practice, John Samani, MD, founded Michigan Knee & Shoulder Institute in 2001. Together with his partner, Tom Perkins, DO, the surgeons dedicated themselves to focusing on advanced orthopaedic care for athletes — amateur and professional — of all ages.
Today, both surgeons stay abreast of the latest sports medicine developments so patients benefit from advanced injury prevention and surgical techniques.
They recently attended an international symposium to learn a new state-of-the-art surgical procedure to reconstruct ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears. With more than 50 cases successfully completed to date, the doctors are hopeful the new approach will prevent post-operative arthritic knee pain. Both doctors believe the new technique will better allow athletes to return to the level of play they enjoyed before injury.
